What is Standby -> This puts your computer in a low power state so that you could quickly resume your windows work session. Standby is a light “sleep” mode you can put your computer in.
You should save your all work before entering into standby mode. It is just for safety if your computer does not wake up correctly later.
Means if you have any unsaved work on your desktop, it will be lost in standby mode.
How to Standby
Start -> Turn Off Computer -> Standby
or
Start -> turn off Computer -> press “S”

What is Hibernate -> In Hibernate, it saves your current working files into
your hard disk drive. A computer can stay in hibernation mode for a much longer period of time than standby mode when unplugged, and it uses less electricity.
It takes slightly longer to resume from Hibernation than from Standby. However, it’s more secure because everything’s written out to disk, and you’re not dependent on a good power source while in Hibernation, as you are with standby.
It is recommended when you left your PC for a while.
How to Hibernate
Start -> Turn Off Computer -> Shift -> Hibernate (Do you notice that you dont
see the Hibernate option unless you hold down the Shift key)
or
Start -> Turn Off Computer -> Press “H”
